My recent knitting obsession continues with the completion of my version of the Wanderlust fingerless mittens by Kate Burge and Rachel Price
The pattern
The Wanderlust fingerless mittens pattern happens to be free and available in the December 2012 issue of Knitty. It’s a relatively popular knit, with over 450 instances of it shared on the platform so far.
The yarn
For my version, I knitted it up using some designer hand-spun I purchased back in June at the Wool Monty in Sheffield. I remember I found it in the sale basket at one of the stalls. Unfortunately, the seller didn’t have any tags on it, so I have no idea which seller it came from. It’s a soft, almost silky feeling worsted weight yarn, in pink and purple tones.
Deviations from the Wanderlust fingerless mittens pattern
For the most part, I followed the pattern with only one exception. The one thing I did change (as suggested by many many other knitters of this project on Ravelry) was to use Kitchener stitch to join the ends, rather than seaming as the pattern instructed. I did try seaming the edges initially, but it ruined the beautiful sideways flow of the cables. Therefore I carefully ripped it back and grafted with Kitchener instead.
