Blythe Cupcake Hat – Knitting Pattern

A couple of months ago I decided that I NEEDED to knit a blythe cupcake hat for a swap. Luckily there are some lovely crochet patterns available for cupcake hats for Blythe. Unluckily I can’t crochet to save my life. The only solution? Invent a pattern. So I did. Here it is. I hope you enjoy.

Blythe cupcake hat Pattern

This pattern is knit from the bottom up.

Materials

Yarn weight: 3 or 4 ply.
Needle size: US 2mm needles.

Cupcake holder

( This uses the reverse side of broken rib stitch )
In colour A cast on 90 sts
Row 1 (RS): Knit
Row 2: K1 *p1, k1; rep from * to end
repeat rows 1 and 2, 7 more times (18 rows in total)

Icing

Switch to colour B
Starting with a perl row St st 4 rows.
With wrong side of work facing you, *knit 1, (yarn round needle, knit two together). Repeat from * to end. You will see that you have knitted a series of “holes” but still have the same amount of stitches on the needle as you started with.

(K7, K2 tog) to end
St st 5 rows
(K6, K2 tog) to end

(P4, P2 tog) to end

(P1, pP2tog) to end leaving 18 sts
(K2tog) to end leaving 9 sts
P2tog, P1, P2tog, P1, P2tog, P1 leaving 6 sts

Cherry

Switch to Color C
Knit row
*Kfb to end leaving 12sts
Knit 3 more rows
*K3tog to end leaving 4sts
Run a thread thought the remaining stitches and tighten.

 

Finishing

Sew up the seams. From the inside of the hat whip stitch the picot edge in place at the point where the colours change. Decorate the icing section using thread or beads as preferred. Block the piece while wet.
