DIY Traveler’s notebook – repurposed backpack

A Traveler’s notebook (not a spelling error) is basically a piece of fabric (often leather) with some elastic that you can slide a notebook or notebooks into. I find a Traveler’s is a great size for mixed media art journaling. Most of the covers you can readily buy are too small to handle a few (OK, 8) chunky mixed media notebook inserts so I’ve again made my own DIY Traveler’s notebook. The fabric for this project came from a serendipitous fail. I ordered a pair of beautiful shoes online, part of an art collaboration between Ara and the Decasa creative studio. The shoes looked lovely but were unbearably squeaky. On the plus side however they did come with a matching drawstring backpack featuring this lovely bespectacled lady. I embroidered gold thread around her starry specks, added some lining and a bit of elastic and hay presto, here she is.
